The CHICAT movement works from these principles:
Environment shapes behavior
Every human being is an asset and every life is valuable
Design thinking solves human problems and expands human possibility
Being engaged in the broader conversation matters
Creativity fuels enterprise
All facets of CHICAT’s unique offerings and its principles draw strength and meaning from the connections between art and technology. Art is a necessary bridge to education, to understanding. Throughout history, artists have relied on technology to move ideas forward. In fact, the word technology stems from the Greek word “techni” which means art. CHICAT’s programming, staffing, marketing, and organizational principles stem from and build on the synergy between art, technology, and community building.
CHICAT uses an asset-based model of community development. The founding CEO of CHICAT, G. Sequane Lawrence, is a community development practitioner and has engaged several different technologies from design thinking to advanced manufacturing and ultra high speed internet in the development of CHICAT’s approach to learning and practice.
