Help us create tomorrow’s future, TODAY

CHICAT opened in March 2017, joining the movement started by MacArthur Genius Bill Strickland and Manchester Bidwell Corporation over 40 years ago. Nationwide, Centers for Arts & Technology (CATs) successfully increase high school graduation rates and equip adults for life-changing employment opportunities. CHICAT activates a potent set of proven practices, including:

• Demand-driven, sector-focused employer partnerships
• Digital skill building and arts-enabled outcomes for youth
• Human-centered design and program space that celebrates and elevates individuals
• Commitment to serving the lowest income, most distressed families

Chicago is the largest city to establish a CAT and marries proven national design standards with local need and relevance. The facility is located in the Illinois Medical District/University Village neighborhood of Chicago.

Recognizing the strong ecosystem of existing organizations and knowing that working collaboratively is the most effective method to help our communities, CHICAT has established relationships with a wide constellation of community-based organization, schools, businesses, activists, and experts to best help the adults, youth, and communities we are serving. These partnerships create a valuable network of organizations and individuals helping one another with the common goal of making a better future for all.

We cannot do this alone.CHICAT relies on these relationships for a wide array of elements including referrals of youth and adults, input into curriculum design and training, instructors as needed, externship opportunities, hiring CHICAT graduates, feedback on job performance of CHICAT graduates, and ongoing support for CHICAT activities and events.

Out of an abundance of caution and in support of evolving public health measures related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Chicago Center for Arts and Technology (CHICAT) will temporarily close March 16 - 30, 2020. All youth and adult classes and programs are suspended during this time.

We intend to re-open on March 31, 2020. However, we will continue to monitor guidelines the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Chicago Department of Public Health, and the State of Illinois. We will evaluate our decision regularly and may further adjust our response as the situation develops.

We appreciate your understanding and patience while we do our part to keep the community safe and healthy.
